FAQs

Over the course of my career, I have found that many people ask similar web design-related questions. I have included these questions and answers in this section.

What is the cost of a website?

Every business is different. Therefore, every website is different and every business has different web needs. I have built an entire website with a logo for under $1000, and I have had clients that have required over $50,000 worth of service over the course of time.

I will provide you with a customized quote tailored to your business needs.

What is your hourly rate?

This also varies, depending on the nature and complexity of the work involved. Again, it depends on your specific website needs.

Do you have package website prices?

No, because package prices and website designs don't work. Website design packages are not tailored to the needs of the businesses they are sold to and quite often are templated and do not distinguish the business or set it apart.

I will offer a customized solution that meets your business needs both now and in the future, and I will not offer a prepackaged solution that will not.

How long have you been in business?

I have been a web designer on a part-time basis since June 1999, and on a full-time basis since April 2002.

Why don't you have any all-Flash websites in your portfolio?

Websites done entirely in Flash simply do not work. Flash requires a great deal of work to make it accessible to disabled users, and while they continue to improve, search engines have difficulty crawling and indexing Flash content. In their Best Practices section, Google states:

Try to use rich media only where it is needed. We recommend that you use HTML for content and navigation. This makes your site more Google-friendly, and also makes it accessible to a larger audience including, for example, readers with visual impairments that require the use of screen readers, users of old or non-standard browsers, and users with limited or low-bandwidth connections such as a cellphone or mobile device. An added bonus? Using HTML for navigation will allow users to bookmark content and send direct links in email.

I will incorporate Flash elements where they're necessary or pose some benefits, but I will not build an all-Flash website for these reasons.
