Are Your Records Accurate?
Make sure you qualify for the best rates available - inaccurate Ministry records can make you appear to be a higher insurance risk than you actually are. It may be worthwhile to ensure any items on your official driving record are true and correct. A clerical error could be costly!
Your record of moving traffic violations could be used by your insurer as one indication of how likely you are to be involved in a collision.
Therefore, most companies take your motor vehicle record into account when determining your auto insurance premium. If other people will be driving your car, their records may also be considered when your premium is calculated.
Below are resources for checking the accuracy of your motor vehicle and driving records. Take note of any driving-related expiry anniversary dates for future reference!
Ontario
A Statement of Driving Record is a 3-year snapshot of a driver's history. It contains your driver's ID, licence number, class, expiry date, conditions or restrictions, your Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code of Canada convictions, suspensions or reinstatements over the past 3 years as well as any convictions, licensing dates and demerit point total.

Québec
Auto insurance in Quebec is provided by both a government insurer and private insurers. The government insures against injuries to people, and private insurers cover you for property damage.
In the case of bodily injury, Quebec has a pure no fault system - there is no right to sue the at-fault driver for pain and suffering or additional medical and economic expenses. For more information, see the web site for The Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec.
