Durham Search is a regional classified ads website. Posting ads is free at all times.
Web Design Needs
I was asked to make a site that functioned in a similar fashion to classified ad sites Kijiji and Craigslist, but with a more visually appealing template and logo supplied to me by the client and a geographically targeted focus (Durham Region).
How I Met Those Needs
HTML/Website Coding
I created a code layout for the existing graphic materials, and converted it to a template for easy additions, deletions, and modifications to the exterior layout
Database Development
I created a custom database to house the classified ads.
Self-Administration Section
The client can add/delete/modify classified ad postings and categories. Visitors to the site can post ads to the site as well.
Blended Flash Introduction
On the home page, the photos of the various individuals and their smiles was done with Flash.
Successes
This site has already been able to sell advertising space since its launch in December of 2008, both as a Google Adsense publisher and via its own clients. This site has already grown to the point where a local Durham Region newspaper refused to sell the client a classified ad on the grounds that it represented more effective competition!
