Web Design Client - F.S. (Form Spammer) Base
Needs
Many of my clients and I were experiencing a great deal of difficulty caused by form spammers. These spammers would randomly and frequently attack the contact and other comment forms on the various websites that I had developed and attempt to post random messages about websites related to spam-related topics.
How I Met Those Needs
Website Design
I created a custom website design from scratch.
Logo
I created an intentionally simple text-based logo to display the name of the website (F.S. Base).
Database Development
I created a customized database to house all of the spam attempts.
Custom Spam Filter
I created a one-of-a-kind spam filter that examines data as it is posted from comment forms. The filter examines a series of common patterns and assigns a score based on how many of those patterns are or are not found. If the score is greater than the maximum score allowed, this data is then added to the F.S. Base website and displayed in real time for the benefit of spam fighters.
The spammer is unaware that this data capture has been performed, since the attempt returns a page indicating that the attempt worked. This is known as a "honeypot" in technical circles.
The spam filter works with any contact forms I develop, regardless of whether or not I host them on my own private server.
Successes
I was able to create a filter that detects and removes 99.7% of spam messages with no "false positives" (messages that appear to be spam but are not) on any of the forms that I apply it to. These results are posted publicly and freely for those who wish to use the data within to combat their own issues with form and other spam.
All of my clients who require or wish to implement the proprietary technology that I used to create this form spam filter receive it at no charge.
