Brokerage and Agency Affiliation and Compensation

Motors Insurance Corporation (MIC) distributes personal lines auto insurance products in Canada through SmartCoverage Insurance Agency, Inc. (SCIA), an insurance agency, and SmartCoverage Insurance Services, Inc. (SCIS), an insurance broker. MIC is a member of the GMAC Insurance Group (GMACI), as are SCIA and SCIS. General Motors is the parent corporation of GMACI.

MIC pays its agents and brokers a basic commission of 15% of the premium they produce. MIC's agents and brokers not only sell insurance on MIC's behalf, but typically provide additional underwriting and insurance policy service activities as well.

If certain underwriting results are achieved, MIC may also pay a contingent commission. If paid, the contingent commission would generally range from 0.25% to 2.2% of the MIC premium serviced by the agent or broker.

MIC does not pay salaries or other compensation to individual agents or brokers.
